LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART is a leading international museum of modern art. Located on the coast it strikes that rarest of balances between landscape, architecture, and art in a unique interaction that attracts visitors from around the world and makes a visit to Louisiana something special throughout the year.

The museum, which is located 25 miles north of Copenhagen, with a panoramic view of Sweden across the Sound, presents six to ten special exhibitions annually and has a distinguished permanent collection with over 3,500 works. Louisiana is also a vibrant cultural centre open in the evening Tuesday to Friday until 22:00 and offers a rich variety of activities and events.

200 evenings every year, you can immerse yourself in a clam and leisurely manner in the exhibitions or the collection, get close to the current cultural debates, meet the best writers of the day, cultivate your interest in classical music, relax to contemporary lounge sounds, enjoy the Café's delicious dinner buffet, browse in the Shop without the hustle and bustle – and not least, experience the museum, the Sculpture Park and Sound in the twilight and evening light.

BY CAR

FROM COPENHAGEN: Louisiana is located 35 km north of Copenhagen. Take E47/E55 or Strandvejen along the coast of the Sound.
FROM HELSINGØR: Louisiana is located 10 km south of Helsingør. Take E47/E55 or Strandvejen along the coast of the Sound.

PARKING

There are parking lots at the museum as well as alternative parking at Humlebæk Centre about a ten-minute walk from the museum.
Parking spaces for the disabled are available on Louisevej in front of the museum's main entrance.
Bussers are asked to park in the parking lot by Humlebæk Kro (Inn). The chauffeur will be offered a cup of coffee while waiting. A voucher can be picked up at the Louisiana entrance when guests are being dropped off and can be uses at Humlebæk Kro or in the Louisiana Cafe.

BY TRAIN

On the Danish State Railway (DSB), the Sound coastal route takes about 35 minutes from Copenhagen’s Central Station and 10 minutes from Helsingør.
From Humlebæk Station, it is a 10-minute walk to the museum.

There is a saving using REJSEKORT (DSB's Travel card) when not travelling during rush hour meaning 11-13 and after 18:00 and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

ACCESS TO THE CAFÉ AND SCULPTURE PARK

Requires an admission ticket or Club Card.

ACCESS TO THE LOUISIANA SHOP

You can visit the Louisiana Shop briefly at no admission charge with a temporary ticket that can be refunded within half an hour.

PAYMENT

At the ticket counter, the Club, the Café and the Shop, you can pay with major credit cards and in major currencies. When you pay in foreign currency, you receive change in Danish kroner.

WARDROBE LOCKERS

Secure lockers are available on the lower level of the Louisiana Shop. They are coin-operated and require a deposit of DKK 20.

BACKPACKS, LARGE BAGS, UMBRELLAS

These articles may not be taken into the exhibition areas.

FOOD FROM OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM

If you bring food from outside the museum, you need to eat it in the park. Picnic parties in the park is not allowed.

PHOTOGRAPHING

The museum’s special exhibitions may not be photographed. You can take photographs in the park and the museum collections. If you are in doubts, please ask.

MOBILE PHONES

Talking on the phone is not allowed in the museum’s special exhibitions.

SMOKING

Smoking is not allowed inside the museum.

PETS

Pets are not allowed in the museum or in the park.

CHILDREN

Children and young people up to 18 FREE ADMISSION.
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

PRAMS AND STROLLERS

There is access for prams on the right in the courtyard though the automatic door.
Smaller strollers can be brought into the exhibition areas. Prams and larger strollers can be stored in the museum's pram parking area on the lower level of the Louisiana Shop.
There you can also borrow a small stroller against a deposit of DKK 20. 

FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED

WHEELCHAIRS / WALKING DISABILITY

There is access to the museum on the right in the courtyard through the automatic door.

Wheelchairs and walkers can be borrowed at the museum. Advance booking is advised. You can also borrow folding chairs by the entrance and in the special exhibitions.

Ramps, elevators and lifts provide access to the exhibition areas on the different levels of the museum. 

Concert Hall: Wheelchair users should order a ticket for the Concert Hall balcony on telephone +45 4919 0719 or by contacting the museum.

HEARING AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED
By advance arrangement, the visually impaired can obtain permission to touch selected sculptures with gloves. Contact Public Relations on telephone +45 4919 0719.
Guide dogs are permitted.
A sign language interpreter can be ordered for guided tours. The Concert Hall is equipped with equipment for transmission to hearing aids.

ESCORT SERVICE

Visitors with disabilities can get an escort free of charge.

GOOD ACCESS
Louisiana is a member of the “Good Access” labelling scheme.

TOILETS

There are toilets in all wings of the museum. Most have a toilet for the disabled and changing facilities.
