LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART is a leading international museum of modern art. Located on the coast it strikes that rarest of balances between landscape, architecture, and art in a unique interaction that attracts visitors from around the world and makes a visit to Louisiana something special throughout the year.
The museum, which is located 25 miles north of Copenhagen, with a panoramic view of Sweden across the Sound, presents six to ten special exhibitions annually and has a distinguished art collection with over 3,500 works. Louisiana is also a vibrant cultural centre open in the evening Tuesday to Friday until 22:00 and offers a rich variety of activities and events.
Louisiana offers free admission for children and young people up to the age of 18. Adults must accompany children under the age of 14.
- SORRY FOR THE MESS
Louisiana is presently carrying out several projects to optimize the experience of the museum both aesthetically and functionally. While the construction work, generously supported by the Realdania foundation, is undertaken with the greatest possible consideration for our visitors, we do apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Louisiana Cafe: The existing roof on the Winter Garden will be replaced by a flat roof consistent with the adjacent buildings. A new passage will also be established in order to allow the visitors to circumvent the Cafe and access the Winter Garden and the stairs down to the East Wing directly from the North Wing
The area connecting the East and South Wings will be turned into a panorama space with several windows and a long bench for guests to sit on and enjoy the view to the park in both directions.
East Wing: Unfortunately access to the East Wing and the presentation of works from the Louisiana Collection will be limited while the construction works are ongoing (no access by lift). You can enter the East Wing either from the outside via the Park (from the level below the large set of steps by the Calder-terrace) or via a narrow passage from the Gabriele Münter exhibition in the South Wing. We regret that during this time the East Wing will therefore not be accessible for visitors with difficulty in walking or in wheelchairs.
Please note that the installation Gleaming Lights of the Souls
by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama will be closed from 20 August until 13 September.
A visit to Louisiana is an experience where art, architecture and nature form a special unity.
French starchitect Jean Nouvel: "In Louisiana, each thing is immediate."
